QUALIFICATIONS:  Education/Certifications:
  • Required: Six or more years of experience in managing an enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor's Degree or Network certifications
    • Maintain certifications with current District standards to include project management, CCNP, CCIE, or CWNP.
Technology Proficiency:
  • Multiple computer operating systems
  • Active Directory/DNS/DHCP
  • Firewalls (stateful and next generation)
  • Disaster recovery
  • Network design and implementation
  • Network hardware and software productivity
  • Authentication Systems (RADIUS)
  • Systems analysis and design
  • Infrastructure support of student and financial systems
  • Security of server and network environment
  • Microsoft Visio design templates for network drawings
Experience:
  • Required: Five (5) years management of enterprise network systems to include multi-server, router, and switch environment. Project management, design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN/WAN network infrastructure in a large educational environment.
Personal Required:
  • Communicates effectively in oral and written form to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Must be team-oriented and work well as a member of a team to bring value to the overall organization.
  • Shows initiative and leadership by providing solutions and ideas with use of technology.
  • Ability to effectively multitask projects and daily tasks as well as responding when unexpected critical needs arise.

  • Analyzes performance and utilization reports along with historic trends to create a short and long term goals for the team.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Presents professional appearance.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's license.
Technical Skills and Knowledge - Experience in the following areas:
  • Plan, design, manage and maintain enterprise network systems to include Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, Internet Access and Network Security Policies
  • Supervising the Network Support Services team to include using Project Management skills.
  • Technical experience in installing and maintaining enterprise Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, Network Security Policies and PC clients.
  • DNS and DHCP Services, Active Directory Domain, and LDAP.
  • Technical experience with LAN based protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP(S), and SMTP
  • Technical experience with WAN base protocols such as frame relay, ATM, switched Ethernet and point-to-point protocol.
  • Technical experience with IEEE standards such as 802.1x for both wired and wireless networks.
  • Technical experience with routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP.
  • Monitor and maintain network services such as Internet access, WiFi, and wired communication infrastructure.
FUNCTION:  The Network Architect will provide an efficient and secure network infrastructure throughout the District campuses and administrative locations by planning, designing and managing network infrastructure for all locations and the overall District design. This also includes planning and managing network design and upgrade projects as well as daily activities. This individual supervises a team of a Wide Area Network (WAN) Specialist and network LAN managers who maintain the Districts Internet and network infrastructure.The job duties include directing daily operations, project management, planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN/WAN network infrastructure in a large educational environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Directs the activities of the Wide Area Network Specialist (1), Sr. LAN Manager (1) and LAN Managers (3), conduct performance reviews and evaluations.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the District's policies and all applicable laws. Responsibilities include: Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures that employee appraisals are done in accordance with District policies and in a timely manner.
Budgetary Responsibilities:
  • Will serve as budget monitor and approve expenditures for resources from budgets that pertain to Network Support Services.
  • Prepare and maintain the budget for the District's network infrastructure projects and daily operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Conditions associated with installing and configuring computer networks, including lifting, moving, bending, kneeling, and crawling are frequently required.
  • Ability to receive information and/or instruction from internal/external customers through spoken expression.
  • Ability to manipulate tools/equipment/keyboards.
  • Ability to convey information and/or instruction to internal/external customers through spoken expression.
  • Ability to perform work while standing and/or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day.
  • Ability to see detailed information, naturally or with correction.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Districtwide and out-of-District travel.
  • Often prolonged and irregular hours.
  • Ability to perform management assignments during non-scheduled working hours.
  • Must be on-call 24 hours a day for emergency response.
